Monday mrktplcs comment: It’s exciting looking ahead to the possible huge ecommerce peak of 2020. The pandemic has meant that online retail finally came of age in its 25th year. There has never been anything similar for us to consider. Not even the first half of 2020.

Perhaps the most notable transformation is welcoming sectors and demographics online in a way that was never before expected or possible. My 70 year old mother bought a pair of shoes on her iPad because she had to. She will again!

This odd year has seen a huge leap forward and retail lockdowns in November across Europe are going to have, massive online pressurising impact on logistics . Can anyone really deliver the goods on time? My local Post Office is already saying that Royal Mail second class deliveries could take 5 weeks. ( I don’t believe them.)

I think our message to consumers must be to look local online (click and collect!) and also order earlier to escape disappointment.

“The European Commission has charged Amazon with abusing its dominant position in online retail to gain an unfair advantage over competitors. The Commission also launched a fresh probe into the possible preferential treatment of sellers that use the tech giant’s logistics services.” (BBC)
